Castle of Aera Empty Castle of Aera

    Post  DoZiGuy54 Sun Feb 08, 2009 6:18 pm

The home of all magic on the Isle of Aera. It was once flourishing with knowledge, but after the Elves' disappearance, it was abandoned and has since fallen into disuse.

Adral pushed the wooden doors open. "Welcome home, my friends." In they went, into the ancient cooridors, filled with dust on every surface. "Adral, you think anyone's been here? Raided the place?" asked one of the elves.

"Only an elf can set foot in the castle of Aera," Adral said as he stared across the courtyard towards the massive complex stretching across most of the island. "Only Halcorn or some of his fellow traitors could come here, and even then, they may have been corrupted so much that even they would be turned away."

"I don't think Halcorn would dare come here, in fear of what we may have set in place to destroy him if he arrived," said Tyre.

"I agree as well," Adral said.

They walked along the hall ways. "Slowly now, one of our comrades has decided to follow us," whispered Cius, one of the other elves. "He needs to learn the lesson of stealth. We shouldn't lose him in this maze."

    "Agreed," Tyre whispered back.

They marched through the empty palace, the sun reaching through the open windows as they had millenia ago. "The elements couldn't take this place down, and neither could Halcorn," Adral said.

Finally, they reached the library. Millions of books sat on the shelves of this place, it was the greatest store of knowledge in the entirety of Myirida. "Lets get started."

Cap, surprised that the wise ones haven't discovered him yet, continued to follow them through the doors of the castle, slipping through right before they closed. He ducked under the stairs, listening to everything that they were saying. "Wow these guys really know what they're talking about." Cap was awestruck at the massiveness and beauty of the castle, even after all these years. He was so amazed, that he let his guard down, and dropped his sword. "Uh-oh..."

Adral heard a clang come from behind. He looked towards, Tyre, and they nodded. "He's found a worm."

They drew their swords, and charged back around the corner to see one of the beasts staring down at the young elf, who Adral remembered as Cap. "Cap, stay back, don't move!" Adral walked forward, trying to remember the words of the old tongue. The language of the gods was the only way to calm a worm of Aera. "Tyre, Cius, anyone remember the words?" he said in a rushed whisper.

It was too late. The worm began to lung towards Cap. "Jump through the window!" Adral yelled.

Hearing Adral's orders, Cap jumped out the window, with reckless abandon. He landed hard on the grass, below. Thankfully, they were on the first floor, of the castle and he didn't have to go falling several stories. He was pretty banged up and had several cuts on his body. They would heal in due time and he didn't want to waste any energy healing himself.

He turned to look back inside the castle. What he saw next left him speechless.

The worm lunged at the empty spot, slamming into the pillars. Adral, with the others behind him following, charged towards the worm. Adral jumped along the long, extended body of the worm, slashing as he went. "Destroy the crystals!" he yelled.

the worm attempted to reverse its body, and as it did so, Adral was flung off, not the greatest on his feet, and not the greatest with the sword in general. It reared up, high above him, and Adral scooted back, preparing for the worst. As it snapped down, he flung a powerful flame shield around him, and raised his sword upward.

As the Worm broke through the shield, slowly but surely through the power of its crystals, its mouth slammed right into his blade, and Adral drove it home, right into the brain. He released the flame shield, then slid out of the way as the worm fell to the ground, dead.

The others had been working in a frenzy to distract it, and stood, and applauded Adral. Adral just smiled, then walked out to where Cap was standing. "Thats why you obey orders, unlike some people have on this trip. Now, next time you decide to follow someone, learn to use a bit more stealth and don't let them know you're there. A dwarf could have heard you. Anyways, there are no secrets within this group. We need to get to work finding a cure for Skye's condition right away."

"Damn these guys are uptight," Cap thought to himself, "but they had a point." Adral's words hit home, and he agreed to follow orders from now on. "Okay then let's get to work, where do you want me to start?"

Adral led them into the library. Thinking hard, he tried to remember it from his youth. "Injuries should be in this section. Lets get started guys." He walked along the aisle, skimming the titles of the books.

War injuries, Chemical Misfortunes, What to do when you're burned..., none of these were what they were looking for. "Its got to be here somewhere. All I know is, whenever someone had this problem, they were sent to this island."

Cap joined the others in their search for the book. He had no clue what it looked like, but that didn't stop his pursuit. He started from the top and worked his way down. There were books about dragons, and books about ogres, books about islands, and books about mountains, but nothing on spells and healing. "Where the heck is that book?" He got down to the last shelf, when a particular book caught his eye, Myridia: An Annotated History. "This can come in handy," flipping open the book he stumbled upon a blank piece of paper. When he touched it, it revealed a map, a map of Myridia. One that must have been waiting here for the elves, planted by their forefathers, knowing they would come back. But this was no ordinary map, it changed with the times, enchanted, knowing the geography and updated daily. Cap went up to Council of Elves, showing him his discovery.

"Damn, why didn't I remember this?" Adral said. He studied the map, remembering all of the places they had used to love. To his dismay, he say over 3/4 of the country of Myirida covered by the darkness of Halcorn.

"It appears the dwarves and the human's do still survive," Tyre said.

Adral nodded. "We still have hope then. Come on, lets keep searching for this cure." Adral took the map, folding it and placing it within the pockets of his cloak.

Suddenly, as they sat searching the library, a blast of energy came slamming through a window. "Skye," Adral said calmly, and he ran to the broken window and looked down the hillside through the trees. However, he didn't see what he expected. He thought it was Skye being a trouble maker, but instead, he saw him in deep trouble himself.

"Tyre, come with me. We've got another worm to deal with."

Out of the corner of his eye, Cap noticed a flash of lightning coming from the forest. "Guys, I think somethings up in the forest. We should go check it out, someone may be in trouble." With that Cap whistled and Blitz came running to his side. He hopped on and took off in the direction of the lightning.
